Another meticulous renovation, on the MTSU campus, of two adjacent buildings at the same time – similar to the previously renovated Davis Science Building, by Hardaway Construction Corp.
Work included some demolition, with spot asbestos abatement. The scope of work included improvements of life safety features, adding and improving the fire protection system, fire alarm system, HVAC system, wall fire ratings and means of egress.
All of the above was accomplished, in phases, some at night and on weekends, since the buildings were occupied some of the time and on-going research projects continued while construction was underway. Control of dust and noise was of high priority along with maintenance of emergency egress exits and accessibility access. Equipment and instruments in the Research Lab could not be disrupted. Temporary cooling of the lab was also required. The equipment and instruments, which remained in place during the renovations, were very carefully protected.
